As you age, the shape and position of your lips may change. You may notice that the distance between your upper lip and your nose increases and that the upper lip may turn inwards, both of which take away from the beauty of your lips. That’s where a lip lift comes in. A lip lift will remove a portion of the excess skin under your nose and actually pull up the upper lip to create a lifted appearance. This lift will also “turn out” the upper lip to create a fuller appearance. So, how long does it take to recover from a lip lift? Keep reading to find out.

How Does a Lip Lift Work

During a lip lift, Dr. Langdon will make a precise incision just beneath the base of your nose. Then, he’ll pull upwards on your upper lip, get rid of excess skin, and place sutures. The procedure will likely be performed under local anesthesia. Your specific size and shape of your lips and face will determine how much tissue Dr. Langdon removes.

It’ll take anywhere between 1 and 2 hours to complete. After a lip lift, you can enjoy fuller, more youthful lips. You’ll love the shape of your new lips and be able to show off your teeth and smile. Complete results will appear about two weeks after surgery once the healing process has come to an end.

Lip Lift Recovery

Fortunately, a lip lift is a simple treatment that results in minimal to no pain and discomfort. The only side effects you’ll likely experience include swelling and bruising. While pain medication is rarely necessary, antibiotic cream applied to the suture line will result in faster healing. Right after the procedure, Dr. Langdon will encourage you to return home and rest.

For three to five days, he’ll ask that you stick to soft foods like applesauce and mashed potatoes. You’ll be able to return to work and your other responsibilities three to four days following the procedure.

A lip lift won’t have any effect on the nerves or muscles of your mouth. Therefore, you won’t have to worry about it changing the way you speak. You may find it a bit difficult to enunciate certain words at first but this should resolve within a few days. As the healing process progresses, your lips will move in a more natural way.

Dr. Langdon is the utmost professional with a caring manner that really put me at ease. He shares all aspects of procedures and helps you decide what is best for you. After having a very successful s mid facelift I asked about my ugly blue veins in my lip that bothered me for years. Dr. Langdon assured me that he could treat them with a lazer in one of my follow up visits. My previous dermatologist told me surgery with a big scar was my only option. In less than fifteen minutes Dr. Langdon took care of several blue veins and with minimal swelling for a few days I am happy to report my lips are perfect. This bothered me for years and now they are gone.
