ExpresS-Lift Facelift Procedure in Connecticut

Surgical Face Facelift

Connecticut’s favorite facelift surgeon. Age brings changes to your appearance, and eventually, the face you see in the mirror may look older or more tired than you would like. A facelift is one of the most effective ways to reduce signs of aging and rejuvenate your appearance. Dr. Langdon’s ExpresS-Lift procedure is less invasive, so you can enjoy the same benefits with shorter recovery and less scarring.

The major signs of age, including deep creases and sagging of the face, can be treated with a surgical procedure known as a facelift or rhytidectomy. It is important to mention that a facelift will only treat sagging of the tissues, as such additional treatments may be necessary, like facial fillers, to treat the loss of facial volume or skin resurfacing with photo rejuvenation to treat skin changes secondary to sun damage.

What is the ExpresS-Lift Rhytidectomy?

The ExpresS-Lift procedure is designed to improve the most visible signs of aging and restore a more youthful appearance to the face and neck. The procedure can improve the appearance of sagging facial skin of the lower face as well as jowls and loose neck skin, which are the result of gravity causing the soft tissue layers (fascia, muscle, and skin) to stretch. A facelift suspends these droopy tissue layers and repositions them to where they were 10 or 20 years ago.

This minimal-incision facelift leaves a less conspicuous scar because the incision is only about half the length of that of traditional facelifts. The ExpresS-Lift procedure provides an overall lift to your neck and the lower two-thirds of your face. Compared to a traditional facelift, the ExpresS-Lift is less invasive, with fewer complications and a much faster recovery.

The most remarkable feature of the ExpresS-Lift is the rapid recovery, with relatively little bruising and swelling. The key is Dr. Langdon’s use of local anesthesia, which constricts small blood vessels during the procedure.

ExpresS-Lift Facelift vs. Traditional Facelift: Which One Is Right for You?

When it comes to facial rejuvenation, both the ExpresS-Lift and Traditional Facelift offer effective ways to reverse signs of aging. However, each procedure has unique features tailored to different needs, recovery preferences, and aesthetic goals. Understanding the differences can help you make the right choice for your specific situation.

1. Invasiveness and Incisions

  • ExpresS-Lift Facelift:
    • Minimal-incision procedure with shorter scars, about half the length of a traditional facelift.
    • Less invasive, targeting the lower two-thirds of the face and neck.
  • Traditional Facelift Procedure:
    • Involves longer incisions, extending along the hairline and around the ears.
    • More comprehensive, addressing deeper facial tissues and offering full-face rejuvenation.

2. Recovery Time and Complications

  • ExpresS-Lift Facelift:
    • Faster recovery with minimal bruising and swelling.
    • Uses local anesthesia, which minimizes bleeding and reduces complications.
    • Patients can typically resume normal activities within days.
  • Traditional Facelift Procedure:
    • Longer recovery time, with more swelling and bruising.
    • Requires general anesthesia in most cases, with potential for more postoperative discomfort.
    • Full recovery may take several weeks to a few months.

3. Results and Longevity

  • ExpresS-Lift Facelift:
    • Provides an overall lift to the neck and lower face, repositioning tissues to where they were 10 to 20 years ago.
    • Best suited for patients with early to moderate signs of aging.
    • Offers natural, subtle results, ideal for those seeking a “refreshed” look.
  • Traditional Facelift Procedure:
    • Delivers dramatic, long-lasting results by addressing deeper facial structures.
    • Ideal for patients with more advanced signs of aging, such as severe sagging and deep wrinkles.
    • Results can last for 10 to 15 years or longer, depending on individual factors.

4. Ideal Candidates

  • ExpresS-Lift Facelift:
    • Perfect for individuals with mild to moderate sagging in the lower face and neck.
    • Suitable for those who want a quick recovery and minimal downtime.
  • Traditional Facelift Procedure:
    • Recommended for patients with significant facial sagging, jowls, and deep wrinkles.
    • Ideal for those seeking comprehensive and longer-lasting rejuvenation.

5. Procedure Cost

  • ExpresS-Lift Facelift:
    • Typically more affordable due to the minimally invasive nature and reduced need for general anesthesia.
  • Traditional Facelift Procedure:
    • Higher cost due to the complexity of the procedure and longer operating time.

Which Facelift Procedure Is Right for You?

Choosing between the ExpresS-Lift and Traditional Facelift depends on your individual goals, the extent of aging, and your lifestyle. If you want quicker recovery with subtle improvements to the lower face and neck, the ExpresS-Lift is an excellent option. For those with advanced signs of aging seeking comprehensive results, a Traditional Facelift may be more appropriate.

At The Langdon Center, our experienced surgeons will help you select the best procedure to achieve your desired look. Whether you choose the ExpresS-Lift or a Traditional Facelift, you can count on personalized care and exceptional results.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for a FaceLift Surgery?

Ideal candidates for a facelift are healthy individuals with realistic expectations about the results. Those with moderate to severe facial sagging, deep wrinkles, or loss of skin elasticity can benefit the most. Non-smokers—or those willing to quit before and after the procedure—are preferred, as smoking can delay healing. A personalized consultation with our triple-board-certified surgeon at The Langdon Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery will evaluate your unique goals and circumstances to ensure a facelift is the right choice for you.

If needed, we can combine the procedure with other treatments, such as:

  • Upper or lower blepharoplasty – to address sagging eyelids
  • Brow lift – to correct drooping brows and refresh the upper face

  • Transportation: A friend or family member must drive you, as you won’t be able to drive afterward.

Once you arrive, you’ll check in and be escorted to the pre-op area. You’ll cleanse your face and hair with antibacterial soap, followed by a meeting with Dr. Langdon to discuss final details, review the procedure, and receive essential post-op instructions.

Facelift Procedure Overview

  • Incision Placement: Precise incisions will be made along natural creases—starting at the temples extending in front of the ears, around the earlobes, and behind the ears. Some incisions may also be placed near the hairline to ensure discreet scarring.
  • Tissue Repositioning: Dr. Langdon will lift and reposition underlying muscles and tissues to restore youthful contours.
  • Excess Skin Removal: After lifting, any extra skin is carefully removed, and the remaining skin is re-draped for a natural look.
  • Advanced Techniques: We use the deep plane facelift method, known for achieving long-lasting, natural-looking results. Each procedure is tailored to your unique needs.

After Surgery: Recovery Room and Care

Following the procedure, you’ll rest for 1-2 hours in our recovery room, where our team will monitor you closely. You’ll need someone to drive you home and assist during the first few days.

Facelift Recovery at The Langdon Center

A facelift is a highly effective procedure, but proper rest and care are essential to achieving the best results. Here’s what you can expect during your recovery:

  • Day of Surgery:
    • Mild grogginess and fatigue from anesthesia are normal.
    • Expect some swelling, bruising, and tightness, which will gradually subside.
    • We’ll provide pain medication if needed, though many patients find they don’t require it.
    • Keep your head elevated to reduce swelling and enhance results.
  • First Few Days:
    • This is typically the most challenging part of recovery, but improvement begins quickly.
    • Gentle walking is encouraged to promote circulation—just be careful and move slowly.
  • Within Two Weeks:
    • Most patients resume light activities in a few days and return to work within two weeks.
    • Avoid strenuous activities until cleared by Dr. Langdon.

What Is the Cost of a Facelift Procedure at The Langdon Center?

The cost of a facelift can vary based on the complexity of the procedure and the specific needs of each patient. The average cost of a facelift (rhytidectomy) is $11,395, according to the latest statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This average cost is only part of the total price – it does not include anesthesia, operating room facilities or other related expenses.

What Factors Influence the Cost of a Facelift?

Several elements can impact the overall cost, including:

  • Type of Facelift: Traditional facelifts, deep plane facelifts, or ExpresS-Lift facelifts may differ in cost.
  • Additional Procedures: Combining your facelift with other surgeries, such as a brow lift or eyelid surgery, will increase the total cost.
  • Customization: Personalized surgical plans tailored to your aesthetic goals may adjust the pricing.
  • Surgeon’s Expertise: With a highly skilled, board-certified surgeon like Dr. Langdon, you are investing in advanced techniques and superior results.
  • Anesthesia and Facility Fees: Surgery performed at an accredited surgical center ensures a safe, professional environment, which contributes to the cost.

Is a Facelift Worth the Investment?

A facelift offers long-lasting rejuvenation that non-surgical treatments cannot match. Patients often enjoy results for 8 to 10 years, with improvements in facial contours, smoother skin, and restore youthfulness. Investing in a facelift can provide a natural transformation that boosts confidence and helps you feel your best for years to come.

Financing Options and Consultations

We understand that a facelift is a significant investment. During your consultation, we’ll review the exact cost based on your customized treatment plan and discuss available financing options to help make your procedure more accessible.

Facelift FAQs at The Langdon Center

With the ExpresS-Lift, the emphasis is on lifting sagging fascia in a more vertical direction than is used in conventional facelifts. Gravity causes sagging over time and is a force that pushes straight down. Lifting in a more vertical direction to counteract gravity’s effect results in a natural look and avoids the obvious “wind tunnel” or “swept back” look of traditional facelifts. In most cases, Dr. Langdon uses a minimal skin incision that is relatively short compared to traditional facelifts, resulting in an inconspicuous scar.

Only local anesthesia is used during an ExpresS-Lift. Local anesthetic offers the advantages of a painless procedure with very little bleeding and subsequently little bruising and swelling (thus a rapid recovery). Treatment times vary from patient to patient, but typically ExpresS-Lift procedures take three to four hours.

Unlike “mini-facelifts” that only tighten the skin, the ExpresS-Lift is a real facelift that tightens the connective tissue layer beneath the skin (called the superficial musculoaponeurotic system or SMAS). It is actually a “deep plane” facelift in which the SMAS is released from firm attachments to underlying tissue in the face and the neck. Tightening the SMAS requires some of the skin just in front of and above the ear to be removed. This allows for minimal skin tension, reducing visible scarring and creating more natural-looking, long-lasting results.

After an ExpresS-Lift facelift, some numbness, bruising, and swelling will occur. Bruising is usually mild and typically takes a week to 10 days to fade completely. Patients typically return to work within one to two weeks of their ExpresS-Lift procedure.

Every surgical procedure carries certain risks and the potential for complications. Potential complications associated with the ExpresS-Lift procedure may include bruising, swelling, sensitivity to anesthesia, asymmetry, infection, nerve injury, and poor healing. Having your facelift performed by an experienced board-certified cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Langdon is crucial to minimizing risks and achieving an optimal outcome.

Patients should ideally be within 10 pounds of their target weight before surgery. Significant weight fluctuations after a facelift may impact the results. Individuals who have lost weight, such as after bariatric surgery, and need excess skin removal are often excellent candidates.

Yes, many patients combine facelifts with other procedures such as Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), Brow lift and Rhinoplasty (nose job). Non-surgical treatments like Botox and laser therapy are also popular to complement facelift results.
