FUE Hair Transplant

Surgical Skin & Hair FUE Hair Transplant

Unfortunately, hair loss is a common concern. Many people struggle with thinning hair or pattern balding as a result of age, genetics, or other factors. No matter the cause, hair loss can be a significant source of distress and frustration. That’s why The Langdon Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery is proud to offer Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplants to help you restore a healthy head of hair.

What is an FUE Hair Transplant?

FUE hair transplantation is a minimally-invasive hair restoration procedure that produces natural-looking results without stitches or scarring. While non-surgical treatments may help hair thinning, a hair transplant is a more effective and permanent solution for balding areas.

Individual hair follicles and tiny groups of follicles (follicular units) from the donor area are transplanted to the recipient balding area. There are no obvious scars and the scalp donor area will heal within 72 hours.

Benefits of an FUE transplant include:

  • No stitches or obvious scarring
  • Results look natural
  • Results are lifelong
  • Innovative, minimally invasive technique
  • Only local anesthesia required
  • Simple procedure performed at The Langdon Center
  • Fast recovery

Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike other hair transplantation procedures, the FUE transplant results in naturally appearing grafts that restore the patient’s natural hairline. This procedure provides the patient with hair that mirrors their original growth pattern, which further enhances the natural results.

This simple procedure is performed with local anesthesia to maximize the patient’s comfort and to minimize risk. There are no stitches so recovery time is faster. Additionally, the FUE transplant method takes less time than older transplant methods, as advanced technology is used to quickly yet precisely transplant hair to the recipient area. Depending on the size of the balding area being treated, the transplant may still take several hours.

Using a small instrument, board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Robert Langdon and his experienced team will remove each individual hair follicle and tiny grouped follicles from the donor area in the back of the scalp. These tiny follicular unit grafts are cleansed and trimmed. The hair follicles grafts are then positioned in optimal locations in the recipient area, assuring natural-looking results of the FUE transplantation. After the grafts are replaced, the restored hair will grow in a similar fashion as the patient’s native hair.

Recovery after an FUE hair transplant is fast and easy. You can expect some scabbing or redness that looks like a sunburn for approximately a week, and you’ll need to wait two or three days to (gently) shampoo your hair. Dr. Langdon will give you detailed instructions for recovery, but you should plan on taking a couple of days of downtime and avoiding strenuous activities for about ten days.

Most people return to work after three days. Some crusting and pinkness may still be visible at this time, so some patients choose to wear a hat or take more time off.

Hair growth is a gradual process, so the outcome of your transplant will take some time. After the procedure, most of the transplanted hair will fall out after a few weeks (don’t worry, the follicles are still there!). The transplanted follicles will begin growing new hair in approximately three to four months. Full growth of all the transplanted follicles may take up to two years. Exact results will vary for each patient, but up to 80% of the transplanted hair will grow back.

An FUE hair transplant can restore hair to thinning or balding areas and give you thicker, healthier hair. The results of the transplant are permanent, though your original hair may still be affected by new hair loss or thinning in the future.

Depending on the cause of your hair loss, other treatments may be necessary to prevent the loss of the transplanted hair. Dr. Langdon will discuss what results you can expect and how to preserve them so you can enjoy a full head of hair for years to come.

Candidates for FUE hair transplant are typically men who are showing signs of genetic male pattern hair loss. Women with female pattern hair loss are also good candidates. It is also important to have sufficient hair in another area of the head (typically the back of the scalp) to use as donor follicles.

During your consultation at the Langdon Center, Dr. Robert Langdon will be able to determine ideal candidates and come up with a treatment plan. For some patients, he may also recommend PRP hair restoration as a non-surgical alternative.
