As age and sun damage leave their mark on your body, you’ll likely find yourself frustrated with loose, sagging skin. Patients with more severe sagging may turn to facelifts or other surgical options to tighten drooping skin and muscles. But for those with mild to moderate skin laxity looking for a quick, convenient solution, SkinTyte™ treatments at the Langdon Center can help.

What is SkinTyte™?

The SkinTyte™ device by Sciton® uses infrared light technology to increase collagen production and tighten the skin. It is a non-surgical, non-invasive skin tightening option that utilizes your body’s natural healing process.

SkinTyte™ heats the dermis with infrared light to contract collagen fibers and stimulate a healing response, which prompts the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. Though it’s primarily intended for skin laxity, SkinTyte™ can improve multiple signs of aging and sun damage.

SkinTyte™ can help reduce:

  • Sagging skin
  • Sun damage
  • Age spots and dark spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Mild acne scars
  • Uneven skin texture

We most often use SkinTyte™ to treat the face, neck, abdomen, and arms. Dr. Langdon may recommend this innovative treatment as a non-surgical alternative to abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).

Frequently Asked Questions

This light energy, non-invasive treatment for skin laxity is safer and more effective than ever before. The Langdon Center uses the Sciton® SkinTyte™ laser for infrared light energy and advanced skin cooling technology to comfortably deliver heat below the skin’s surface for increased tissue tightening and reduced skin laxity.

A SkinTyte™ treatment takes approximately 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated. The applicator will deliver pulses of light to the treatment area while maintaining a comfortable temperature on your skin. Typically, no topical anesthetic is needed.

For patients with mild skin laxity, SkinTyte™ offers the advantage of no downtime and minimal side effects, unlike surgical alternatives. Most side effects are mild and of short duration. You may experience redness and swelling in the treatment area for a day or two. Very rarely, patients have mild blistering and bruising that clears up quickly.

You can resume your regular activities immediately after a SkinTyte™ treatment. The treated area will be extra sensitive while it heals, so avoid sun exposure and apply sunscreen.

Since SkinTyte™ works by increasing collagen production, it takes time for visible results to appear. Some patients need multiple sessions for optimal results. As your skin creates new collagen, you’ll start to see firmer, smoother skin in the treatment area.

Final results are typically visible three to six months after SkinTyte™. These benefits are long-lasting. Most patients’ results last approximately two years, and you can return for maintenance treatments as needed. Good skincare and protecting yourself from sun damage can also help maintain your skin’s elasticity and youthful appearance.

You may benefit from SkinTyte™ if you have mild skin laxity, sun damage, age spots, aging skin, irregular skin texture, or skin pigmentation from excessive sun exposure. It also helps to improve mild acne scars and enlarged pores. SkinTyte™ treatments for the face can reduce fine lines around the lips, mouth, and eyes.
