Here is a question we often receive from our New Haven County patients – do I need a facelift, or will injectables like BOTOX® and dermal fillers such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, Radiesse® and Sculptra® achieve the anti-aging results I desire?
The are many differences between a facelift and injectables and dermal fillers, such as:
- Facelifts correct underlying facial muscles – fillers do not
- A facelift can remove excess skin – fillers cannot
- Facelift surgery lifts the skin, whereas dermal fillers replace lost volume
For a patient to be “ready” for a facelift, they must have lost a good deal of skin elasticity as well as have considerable excess sagging tissue, such as jowls. The facelift will reposition underlying muscles of the face as well as eliminate this excess tissue for a smoother, tauter, lifted and more youthful appearance.
The ideal candidate for dermal fillers has lost facial volume only and is bothered by fine lines and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds (smile lines), lip lines and hollow cheeks. Dermal fillers are an excellent option for correcting lines along the sides of nose and around the mouth. For those who are bothered by forehead furrows (frown lines) and crow’s feet, BOTOX® is a safe, effective and non-surgical solution.
We take a customized approach to facial rejuvenation at The Langdon Center and will take the time to explain all of your cosmetic options. For some patients, a combination of surgery, such as a facelift, neck lift, brow lift or eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) as well as injectables and dermal fillers are recommended.
