How Can I Eliminate Acne Scars?

November 13, 2019

If you’ve struggled with acne in the past and are now left with scars to remind you, you should know that there are ways you can improve your appearance. Here at The Langdon Center, we know just how frustrating it can be to live with acne scars and we offer a number of effective treatments to help you fade them. Different types of acne scars may require different treatments for optimal improvement. We’ll discuss a few of these treatment options below.

Acne Laser Treatment Guilford

The Fraxel Laser

The Fraxel laser uses laser energy “fractionated” (focused) into tiny spots to create thousands of micro-wounds in your skin in order to stimulate the production of collagen and reduce the appearance of acne scars. This type of “non-ablative” fractional laser treatment can be effective for the most common type of acne scars. You can expect a Fraxel laser treatment to take about 60 to 90 minutes to complete.

Although you may notice a bit of redness and minor swelling after each treatment, these side effects should resolve on their own within a few days. You may notice improvement after a single treatment but Dr. Langdon will likely recommend four to six treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. The more treatments you do, the better the results!

Fractional CO2 Laser

We use the DeepFX fractional CO2 laser procedure, which emits high-energy carbon dioxide laser light, to improve larger and deeper acne scars by stimulating new collagen over time. This treatment is “ablative” in that each micro-spot of laser energy actually eliminates some of the scar tissue.

DeepFX targets deeper scars and involves deep heating to immediately tighten collagen and allow for long term collagen remodeling. Tightened collagen can result in shrunken acne scars.

Which Treatment is Right For Me?

There are a number of different types of acne scars. Ice pick scars are deep, narrow scars with a sharp border. Boxcar scars are sunken areas with a steep, well-defined border. Rolling scars are essentially depressions that have rounded edges. Raised scars are usually seen on body areas like the chest or the back and are rarely seen on the face.

Milder scars typically respond well to the Fraxel laser; moderate to severe scars can be improved with the fractional C02 laser. During a consultation, Dr. Langdon will evaluate your acne scars and design a customized treatment plan to help you meet your aesthetic goals.

Dr. Langdon and his staff are very friendly and I walked away from every appointment happy with my experience and treatments I recieved. Everyone at the front desk is very welcoming and informative and Dr. Langdon was always able to answer any questions I had regarding my IPL treatments. I noticed very significant progress in regards to having my acne blemishes from prior years removed.
