What Kind of Laser Can Be Used for an Eyelid Lift?

January 2, 2022

For people who want to correct sagging, loose skin around the eyes, a blepharoplasty or eyelid lift may seem like the only option. Dr. Robert Langdon at The Langdon Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery offers a surgery-free solution that can rejuvenate and tighten the eye area using a laser.

What is an Eyelid Lift?

An eyelid lift improves the appearance of the eye area. A surgical eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, will often remove loose skin and excess fat to achieve a lifted, more alert appearance. However, not everyone wants or needs a surgical eyelid lift to achieve results. Dr. Langdon offers a natural eyelid lift that injects fat into the peri-orbital (around the eye) area. This replaces lost volume and diminishes the appearance of undereye bags, sagging, and smoothes out wrinkles.

Dr. Langdon also offers a laser eyelid lift that tightens the eyelid skin. Patients see an improvement in drooping skin, wrinkles, and other signs of aging around the eye. This non-invasive option uses no injections or incisions, and it can achieve results comparable to blepharoplasty in some cases

What Kind of Laser Can Be Used for an Eyelid Lift?

Patients often see the best results with an erbium:YAG laser. This type of laser removes superficial layers of skin while leaving deeper layers intact. The healthy remaining skin cells trigger a rapid healing process. As the skin heals, it also produces more collagen, a protein that gives the skin firmness and support. An erbium:YAG laser effectively initiates cell turnover and stimulates collagen production. Other types of lasers can also perform a laser eyelid lift, but Dr. Langdon most often uses an erbium:YAG laser.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Laser Eyelid Lift?

If you have loose skin and wrinkles around the eye area, you may be a good candidate for a laser eyelid lift. This non-invasive treatment works for most skin types and tones. People who have an infection or irritation in the area may need to wait for this problem to resolve before having treatment.

Is There Any Downtime With a Laser Eyelid Lift?

You may notice redness, soreness, and some swelling after treatment. These resolve within a week. Some people may also notice minor peeling in the area after the skin has healed (usually within seven days). Follow Dr. Langdon’s instructions on how to take care of your skin in the days following treatment.

What Results Can I Expect from a Laser Eyelid Lift?

You can expect results that improve sagging eyelid and periorbital skin. You will see greatly reduced lines and wrinkles. These changes make the eye area look younger, more alert, and brighter
