Non-Surgical Injectables Bellafill®

There are many brands of dermal fillers, each with its own ingredients and consistencies to produce specific results. So how do you pick from so many options? We offer several different types of fillers at the Langdon Center so that we can find the best fit for each patient. For patients with busy schedules seeking long-lasting results without frequent maintenance treatments, Bellafill® might be the perfect match.

What is Bellafill®?

Bellafill® is a unique collagen-based dermal filler that can smooth out deep lines and indented scars. It includes microspheres of biocompatible polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a polymer that has been used safely for many years in implantable medical devices.

Unlike other dermal fillers, these microspheres are designed to stay at their injected site and last for several years. The PMMA particles also stimulate collagen production, which makes the results even more long-lasting. Collagen is an essential connective tissue fiber that gives your skin structure but that naturally decreases with age. By prompting your skin to produce more collagen, Bellafill® has anti-aging benefits far beyond the immediate volume boost.

Bellafill® has been shown to improve:

  • Wrinkles and indented scars
  • Nasolabial and marionette folds
  • Facial volume loss

Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Langdon, a board-certified cosmetic surgeon and dermatologist, performs Bellafill® treatments at the Langdon Center in Guilford, CT. Having an experienced professional inject Bellafill® is especially essential because this filler can’t be dissolved to undo unwanted results, and the effects last several years. You’ll need to have a skin test before the treatment to ensure you aren’t allergic to the bovine collagen in Bellafill®.

After a numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort, your injections should only take a few minutes. Dr. Langdon makes carefully controlled injections through a fine needle, placed strategically to achieve the best results for the patient’s problem areas.

Bellafill® injections can be paired with another dermal filler, such as Juvederm® if multiple areas of the face need to be addressed. Dermal fillers are just one of our convenient injectable treatment options, which can be customized to each patient’s needs.

There’s no downtime after Bellafill®, which means patients can go about their normal activities immediately following treatment. Some patients may experience redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites. These side effects usually fade within a few days after the procedure. You can use an ice pack to minimize swelling and cover any bruising with makeup.

Though you can resume your regular routine immediately after the injections, we may recommend avoiding vigorous exercise, high heat, steam, and facial treatments for a couple of days. Heat and activities that elevate your heart rate may worsen bruising and swelling.

Bellafill’s® collagen gel provides instant volume, so results are immediate. However, swelling and bruising may obscure your initial results, and you won’t see the full benefits until your skin has had time to produce more collagen. You’ll see optimal results in three to six months.

The results of Bellafill® can last for several years. When injected into the nasolabial folds, Bellafill® results have been shown to last for five years. Bellafill® can also provide persistent improvement when used to correct acne scarring and traumatic scars. These long-lasting results set Bellafill® apart from other dermal fillers—you can enjoy the benefits for years instead of months without annual maintenance treatments.

Keep in mind that, unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Bellafill® can’t be dissolved or reversed. This means you can enjoy long-lasting results, but it also means you can’t undo the results if you aren’t satisfied with them. If you’re not ready to commit to long-term changes, Dr. Langdon may recommend trying one of our other dermal fillers first.

Bellafill® is safe and effective for all skin types and tones. Good candidates are those looking to address facial volume loss, deeper furrows around the nose and mouth, or indented acne scars. Because Bellafill® contains bovine collagen, a skin test is necessary to rule out any allergic reactions. Dr. Langdon may not recommend Bellafill® if you are prone to hypertrophic scarring, have certain medical conditions, or are pregnant or nursing.

If you are allergic to bovine collagen or are uncomfortable using animal products, Dr. Langdon can recommend one of our many other dermal filler brands. Bellafill® is only FDA-approved for certain areas of the face, so some cosmetic concerns like under-eye hollows or thin lips may require a different filler type.
