How Long Does an Eyelid Lift Last?

October 20, 2022

Sagging eyelids and under-eye bags can make you look tired or older than you feel. You can restore the appearance of the delicate eye area with an eyelid lift. This procedure treats the upper or lower eyelids to give you a bright-eyed, alert appearance that helps you look younger.

What is an Eyelid Lift or Blepharoplasty?

An eyelid lift or blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects sagging, wrinkles, puffiness and other signs of aging. Depending on your needs, you may have an upper blepharoplasty, a lower blepharoplasty, or both. Dr. Langdon performs eyelid lifts using a CO2 laser instead of a scalpel.

How Does an Eyelid Lift Work?

Dr. Langdon performs eyelid lifts using a CO2 laser under local anesthesia. The procedure usually takes one to two hours, and you will feel minimal discomfort. The laser heats blood vessels as it works, stopping most bleeding. This results in far less swelling and bruising than after a typical eyelid lift done with a scalpel. Dr. Langdon will remove excess skin and fat to tighten the eyelid area and restore a refreshed, energized appearance.

How Long Does an Eyelid Lift Last?

An eyelid lift can restore a dramatically more youthful appearance, but it cannot stop aging from affecting the eye area. Blepharoplasty results usually last at least ten to fifteen years. Some people may decide to have their results touched up after this time, while others may remain happy with their appearance. You can prolong the life of your procedure with good skincare and consistent use of sun protection.

What Can Blepharoplasty Treat?

Blepharoplasty treats the upper and lower eyelids to reverse signs of aging and restore a wide-awake, energetic appearance. You may have this procedure to treat:

  • Wrinkles and excess skin
  • Under-eye fatty bags
  • Overhanging skin that obscures your vision
  • Drooping and sagging
  • A tired or sad appearance

We recommend a consultation so you can discuss your concerns with Dr. Langdon. Some people may be good candidates for a natural eyelid liftThis procedure uses fat transfer to restore volume and softness around the eye area.

What is Recovery Like From an Eyelid Lift?

The use of a CO2 laser for eyelid lifts cauterizes blood vessels. As a result, you will experience less bruising and swelling than with a traditional blepharoplasty. You may be able to go back to work within a few days. You should wait for your surgeon’s approval before resuming your exercise routine or other strenuous activities.

Am I a Good Candidate for an Eyelid Lift?

Good candidates for an eyelid lift want to restore a youthful appearance to the eye area. This procedure works well for those with sagging eyelid skin or under-eye bags. Ideal candidates have no significant health problems and reasonable expectations.

I have had a couple procedures at Dr Langdon’s practice. I have been very happy with the results. Dr Langdon and staff are both knowledgeable and professional.
