Most of us have a few body parts that bother us no matter what we do. These stubborn fat accumulations can develop around your abdomen, thighs, and other areas. Liposuction removes this resistant fat so you can finally achieve your sculpted look.

What is Liposuction for Body Sculpting?

Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that removes pockets of excess fat using a thin tube called a cannula. Dr. Langdon performs several types of liposuction. One of the most common and effective is tumescent liposuction, which infuses the area with local anesthetic and sterile saline. This fluid makes fat removal painless and easier and limits bleeding and swelling.

How Much is Liposuction?

The cost of liposuction varies according to several factors:

  • Your provider’s skill and experience
  • Your location
  • The size of the treated areas
  • The type of liposuction used

The average liposuction procedure of one body area costs $3,500 to $3,600 in the United States. However, small areas may cost less than this estimate, and large areas will often cost more. This estimate may also not cover all associated expenses, such as anesthesia or facility fees. During your consultation, Dr. Langdon will create a customized treatment plan to give you an accurate quote.

Can Liposuction Help Me Lose Weight?

Although liposuction removes fat, you should not think of it as a way to shed excess body weight. Liposuction removes fat in superficial (subcutaneous) areas to provide body sculpting, not weight loss. Deep fat stores such as visceral fat are not accessible or safely treated by liposuction. Dr. Langdon will determine how much fat he should remove to provide the most appealing contours. Removing too much fat could make the treated area look uneven or out of proportion, so liposuction is typically best for candidates at or near their ideal weight who just have a few problem areas to address. Heavier patients can also be treated but may require liposuction of additional adjacent body areas.

Should I Get Liposuction or CoolSculpting®?

You may have heard about non-surgical body sculpting methods like CoolSculpting®. This treatment freezes unwanted fat cells, which the body naturally eliminates over time. Liposuction works better for those seeking dramatic results. However, non-surgical body contouring treatments like CoolSculpting® offer the benefit of no downtime or incisions.

Liposuction results become visible almost immediately, while CoolSculpting® results take about three months. Both fat reduction options can provide long-lasting results.

Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

Good candidates for liposuction want to target areas of problem fat. Liposuction candidates should be in good health and have reasonable expectations. Although individuals close to their goal weight will see the most pleasing results, those with a higher body weight can still benefit.
