How Safe is a Facelift?

December 13, 2023

You have many treatment options to ward off signs of aging. However, injectables or non-surgical treatments cannot address significant sagging or deep wrinkles. A facelift tightens the skin and underlying structures of the face and neck for a vibrant, youthful appearance. This procedure is the definitive treatment for drooping skin and other advanced signs of aging.

What is a Facelift (Rhytidectomy)?

A facelift or rhytidectomy is performed to address signs of aging, such as loose skin, jowls, and wrinkles. Dr. Langdon performs the ExpresS-Lift facelift, providing all the results of a standard facelift with less discomfort and recovery time. An ExpresS-Lift has several advantages over a standard facelift and still provides the youthful, more energized appearance you want.

How is an ExpresS-Lift Facelift Performed?

Dr. Langdon performs the ExpresS-Lift procedure using local anesthetic and sedation. This combination allows you to avoid the risks of general anesthesia. It also reduces bleeding and swelling. Minimally invasive techniques and smaller incisions make this type of facelift an excellent option for anyone seeking effective results and a quick recovery.

How Safe is a Facelift?

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that facelift complications are very rare. Choosing an experienced surgeon decreases the risk even more. Using local anesthesia for the ExpresS-Lift procedure eliminates the risks that come with general anesthesia. Your surgical team will monitor you after your facelift and address any minor issues if they arise. Most people heal rapidly and without complications.
All surgical procedures involve some amount of risk. We encourage you to ask questions and understand these rare but possible issues. You can trust your Langdon Center team to support you after your ExpresS-Lift, even if you encounter problems. Our post-surgical instructions limit your risk of problems and help you heal quickly and smoothly.

What is Recovery Like After a Facelift?

An ExpresS-Lift has a shorter recovery time than a standard facelift. You can expect minor discomfort and swelling, although some people feel fine almost immediately. Any soreness will resolve within a few days, and swelling should largely resolve in one to two weeks. Most people can return to work within a week or two. Your Langdon Center team will discuss when you can return to your exercise routine and other physical activities.

What Results Will I See After a Facelift?

You may continue to notice minor swelling for several weeks after your facelift. You will immediately see a more lifted, smoother appearance. You will also notice improved definition, especially in the neck and mid and lower face. Scars will begin to fade within the first few weeks and eventually become almost invisible. Because Dr. Langdon lifts your skin vertically to counteract the effects of gravity, your results never look overly tight or unnatural.

Dr. Langdon and all of his nurses and staff are very friendly and they know how to make you feel very comfortable. He is a very experienced doctor, I call him an artistic dr. because he’s so precise in his work. If you would like something done right, dr. Langdon is the one to see. I am very pleased with my results and very grateful for him and his staff being here in Ct.
