How Does a Lip Lift Work?

The lip lift is a surprisingly simple cosmetic surgical procedure, and many patients find the recovery well worth the benefits. It works by shortening the philtrum, the skin between the nose and the upper lip. The procedure everts (turns out) the lip for a fuller, more lush appearance and restored facial balance.

The incision is well hidden beneath the nose. Dr. Langdon, who is one of the few surgeons to perform this procedure in Connecticut, makes a precisely-measured bullhorn-shaped incision in the crease just beneath the nose, then duplicates it with a second incision below the first. The strip of skin between incisions is removed, and sutures are carefully placed to minimize scarring. The result is a full, shapely upper lip and a barely-there scar.
