Body contouring treatments and fat removal remain extremely popular. After all, stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise are a common frustration. At the Langdon Center, Dr. Langdon specializes in low-impact liposuction procedures using advanced technology to reduce unwanted fat and rejuvenate and tighten your skin and body. One of these innovative liposuction options is ProLipo.

What is ProLipo?

ProLipo is a type of laser-assisted liposuction created by Sciton®. During liposuction, a cannula is inserted into the skin to break apart and suction out unwanted fat. Delivering laser energy through the cannula helps destroy the fat more effectively and safely while also tightening the skin. Laser-assisted liposuction options like ProLipo offer a gentler option than traditional liposuction.

ProLipo can be used to treat multiple areas of the body, including the:

  • Upper arms
  • Lower abdomen
  • Inner and anterior (front of) thighs
  • Male breasts (gynecomastia)

Because it has both slimming and skin-tightening benefits, ProLipo laser-assisted liposuction is a great alternative to tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). Like any body contouring treatment, ProLipo is not a replacement for weight loss but can target stubborn areas of localized fat.

Unlike other laser liposuction technologies, ProLipo uses two wavelengths for a more customizable and optimized treatment. Laser energy has multiple benefits. Its primary purpose is to liquefy the unwanted fat cells, making them easier to remove with minimal bruising. The heat of the laser also stimulates collagen production within the skin, combating skin laxity and producing a tighter, more toned look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Langdon performs all liposuction procedures with the tumescent method to minimize risks and recovery while maximizing results. During tumescent liposuction, diluted local anesthetic, saline, and epinephrine are injected into the treatment area. This helps to shrink the blood vessels, minimize bruising, and inflate the tissues for easier access. With the ProLipo technology, he can offer an even gentler treatment that also helps tighten loose skin for a smooth, sculpted look.

Once the treatment area is numbed with tumescent local anesthesia, a tiny fiber-optic cannula is introduced into the fat layer through small incisions. Dr. Langdon uses this cannula to deliver laser energy to the fat layer. A ProLipo procedure typically takes about an hour per treatment area and is completely painless.

One of the advantages of laser-assisted liposuction treatments like ProLipo is easier recovery and reduced side effects. The use of tumescent anesthesia and laser energy limits bruising and swelling. Most patients only need a few days of downtime after ProLipo. However, your exact recovery timeline will depend on your customized treatment and how much fat was removed.

Dr. Langdon will describe what to expect during recovery and give you detailed aftercare instructions. You can expect the treatment area to be sore and swollen, and you may need to avoid strenuous activities for one to two weeks. For patients seeking a body sculpting treatment with no downtime that can fit into even the busiest of schedules, Dr. Langdon may recommend a non-surgical option like CoolSculpting®.

Since liposuction suctions out unwanted fat, the slimming effects are immediate. However, swelling may initially obscure your results. You’ll be able to appreciate your improved contour in a week or two as swelling and bruising subside. Patients can expect optimal improvements to develop over several weeks as increased collagen production helps tighten and tone the skin.

With proper care and weight management, you can enjoy the benefits of ProLipo for a lifetime. ProLipo permanently removes unwanted fat. However, weight gain can cause the remaining fat cells in the area to expand, so maintaining a healthy weight is essential for long-lasting results.

The Langdon Center offers multiple types of liposuction and body contouring to help you remove stubborn fat. ProLipo is ideal for patients with loose skin overlying the treatment area since it slims and tightens. Depending on your needs, Dr. Langdon may recommend one of our other laser-assisted liposuction options, such as SlimLipo™ or SmartLipo®.

The best way to determine if ProLipo is right for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Langdon. He will discuss your cosmetic goals and evaluate your areas of concern to create a personalized treatment plan. Ideal candidates should be healthy, have realistic expectations, and be able to maintain a steady weight after their liposuction procedure.
