Non-Surgical Injectables Dermal Fillers Radiesse®

One of the quickest, easiest ways to restore volume for a more youthful look is with dermal fillers. The Langdon Center offers several brands of dermal fillers, each with its own benefits and uses, to ensure we have the best fit for every patient. Many of our patients enjoy exceptional results with Radiesse®.

What is Radiesse®?

Radiesse® is an FDA-approved dermal filler made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a substance found in bones. Microspheres of CaHA are suspended in a natural gel. When injected under the skin, the gel creates instant volume, while the CaHA microspheres act as a biostimulant for long-term improvements.

This calcium-based dermal filler is a thicker, hardier option than hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm®. Since it’s a firmer formula, Radiesse® is best for areas with thick skin or directly over the bone. Radiesse® is ideal for treating deep furrows, nasolabial folds, and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. It can also smooth out frown lines between your eyebrows (glabella) or augment your cheekbones.

Its hardy CaHA formula gives Radiesse® some unique advantages over hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. The results may be longer-lasting, and the thicker gel is less likely to migrate from the treatment area. However, Radiesse® isn’t ideal for more delicate areas, such as the lips and under the eyes.

Frequently Asked Questions

The first step of your dermal fillers treatment is a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Langdon to create your personalized treatment plan. Choosing an experienced provider for Radiesse® injections is crucial for optimal results, especially since Radiesse® can’t be dissolved as HA fillers can.

Radiesse® injections are a simple procedure that typically takes just 15 minutes, depending on the treatment area. After evaluating your facial structure, Dr. Langdon will make small injections to strategically add volume and smooth out wrinkles. The injections are a slight pinch, but any discomfort should be minor and brief. We can apply a topical numbing cream for your comfort if needed.

Dermal fillers like Radiesse® don’t require any downtime. Some redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection sites are normal, but you can resume your daily activities immediately. You can continue your regular skincare routine and use makeup to cover up any bruising. These minor side effects should subside within a week.

Dr. Langdon will give you aftercare instructions for your personalized treatment. He may recommend an ice pack to minimize swelling, and you may need to refrain from certain medications and supplements for a few days. Aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil, and alcohol may increase the risk of bruising. Patients should avoid sun exposure and strenuous exercise for a day or two after Radiesse® injections.

The unique Radiesse® formula provides both immediate and long-term benefits. Once injected, the gel instantly adds volume to smooth out wrinkles and restore a softer, more youthful appearance.

Meanwhile, the CaHA microspheres will stimulate collagen production. Collagen is essential to your skin’s structure and health, but it decreases as you age and can be broken down by sun damage. Treatments like Radiesse® that promote collagen production are an effective anti-aging option that helps create firmer, smoother skin over time.

Thanks to the increased collagen, improvements from Radiesse® often last a year or more. Yearly maintenance treatments make it easy to preserve your results. Patients who want to try dermal fillers with longer-lasting results may benefit from Sculptra® or Bellafill®.

Since Radiesse® is made with a biocompatible substance and requires a simple injection procedure, the treatment is safe for almost anyone. Ideal candidates want a convenient, temporary solution for wrinkles and volume loss around the mouth and nose. We often recommend Radiesse® for patients with the following:

  • Smile lines or nasolabial folds
  • Frown lines (glabella, also called “11s”)
  • Marionette lines
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Volume loss in the cheeks, chin, or jawline

Patients wanting to treat under-eye hollows or thin lips may benefit from a hyaluronic acid filler like Juvederm® or Restylane®. If you want permanent volume enhancement, Dr. Langdon may recommend a facial fat transfer instead of dermal fillers. During a detailed consultation, he will discuss your goals and assess your skin and facial structure to determine which treatment will best achieve your goals.
